Outreach at Faith

Over the course of the year, the Outreach ministry has been active in developing the visitor outreach program, advertising worship services and 75th anniversary events, and engaging with the news media.

Visitor outreach: Each week, Faith members contact local visitors who provide information in the Faith Friendship Folders either with a personal visit or an email. From October 2007 to September 2008, approximately 175 individuals located in the DC area have visited Faith. Of that number, we have followed-up over 80%. Over half of our new members were visited as part of this program.

Advertising: Faith Lutheran aggressively advertised itself in the Arlington Community.

Ran advertisements in the Washington Post and The Express to announce the change in service times this spring.

Placed numerous banners outside of the church, including banners that announced our 75th Anniversary celebration, Holy Week services, and the change in service times. Signs will also advertise Advent services.

Ran advertisements in the following Homeowner’s associations: Arlington Heights, Ashton Heights, Barcroft, Cherrydale, Douglas Park, and Westover Village.

Updated the brochure with recent pictures, updated graphics, and additional emphasis on ministry and fellowship opportunities.

Media Placements: For the first time in recent years, Faith Lutheran Church was mentioned in two news stories. At the beginning of May, The Arlington Sun Gazette profiled Faith Lutheran Church and our 75th Anniversary. The Capital Research Center’s August Edition of Compassion and Culture mentioned Faith Lutheran Church and our commitment to Haiti’s Village of Hope [http://www.capitalresearch.org/pubs/pubs.html?id=651].

County Fair: Faith served as a sponsor and maintained an exhibit at the Arlington County Fair in August. Small tokens with Faith’s name, address, and worship service times we handed out. We had several new visitors in August as a result of our outreach at the Fair. Thanks to Mary H. for organization our effort and to all of the dedicated Faith members who took the time to represent Faith at the booth.
